Kim Reed is CEO of Reed International Law & Consulting and Managing Partner of Croissance Aframer (with offices in Washington, DC, Brussels, Paris, and Dakar, Senegal), both of which provide legal, business and economic development services to clients all over the world. Kim earned BA’s in English, History, and International Studies from Duke University and her Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law. A native of a small mountain town in Virginia, she has practiced international law in the United States, Russia, Poland, and the UK with three global law firms, including most recently Hogan Lovells. She has represented clients in over 40 countries on multi-billion-dollar business transactions as well as large infrastructure projects in the developing world. In 2007-08, she served as Director of International Operations for the Obama Presidential Campaign, where she created the first worldwide political campaign field operation, resulting in President Obama being the first Democratic candidate to win the American expatriate vote. Previously she worked at The White House during the first Clinton Administration. She has worked on six U.S. Presidential campaigns, several Senate and Congressional campaigns and local political races, and has been a chief election judge and party precinct chair. Kim also spent six years in academia as an assistant dean and adjunct professor at the University of North Carolina Law School. Kim has served on over 25 charitable boards, and is the founder of the Talizman Foundation, which benefits orphanages, veterans’ homes, and poor schools and families in rural Poland, and the Russian Pro Bono Clearinghouse, which recruits law firms to take on nonprofits’ legal work for free. She serves on charitable boards in the fields of education, HIV/AIDS, empowering women, global public interest law, preventing gun violence, and assisting critically ill children from poor families in the former USSR. She chairs the Duke University Islamic Studies Center and has been published extensively on topics such as cross-border mergers & acquisitions, doing business in Russia, complex corporate due diligence, the Arctic, nonprofit management, public international law, ethics, and the novels of William Faulkner. Kim is married and has a 14-year-old son and a 12-year-old daughter, as well as two dogs, two cats, and two lizards
