"Emma Edhem has risen to great heights in the world of law. But when she was growing up, not everyone believed she was capable of building a career of any kind. A lifetime of winning arguments and betting on herself has led Edhem to identify one key trait that – even in the face of fear – is the ticket to designing the life you want to lead. What is that trait? Edhem explains in this powerful talk.
Emma Edhem is a barrister of more than 22 years’ standing and is Deputy Head of International Law in the biggest Chambers in the UK. She is a member of the Honourable Society of Grays Inn, Ad Eundem member of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple, first Turk in 800 years to be elected Common Councilman of the City of London Corporation sitting on the Planning and Transportation Committee and Community and Children's, first woman to be elected as Chairman of the Turkish British Chamber of Commerce and Industry, first woman to be elected President of the Turkish British Legal Society. She is also a Board Member of the Azerbaijani British Law Association, Governor of the Royal Bridewell Hospital, Governor of the City of London School for Girls, and Freeman of the City of London. Emma’s main areas of current practice include investment and trade international arbitrations, geopolitical law, treaty interpretation, national and cross-border commercial disputes, fraud, corruption, bribery, libel and privacy. She has successfully represented several high profile clients in well-publicized cases, some globally, over the last few years. Amongst many other projects, Edhem is currently tasked with helping to re-write the UK Police Policy on Asset Recovery to be adopted by the National Crime Agency upon completion. She is also a trained mediator.
